The College of Engineering’s International Engineering Programs offers unparalleled experiences both on campus and abroad for students looking to become global engineers. Students can participate in international programming on campus through an enrichment program titled Engineers Around the World, which promotes discourse and engagement for all engineers interested in an educational experience abroad. Additionally, students with a specific language and culture focus can enroll in one of IEP’s five-year, dual degree programs, where enrolled students earn two degrees simultaneously: a BSE or BS in their engineering discipline and a BA in French, German or Spanish. By combining the power of a strong engineering program and the immersion in a foreign language and culture (which includes a full academic-year abroad), the five-year, dual degree program prepares students for rewarding careers in a diverse array of engineering fields in a global context.

Dual Degree International Programs
International Engineering Programs’ Dual degree international programs offer students the unique opportunity to earn degrees from two academic Colleges at UConn – a bachelors in their engineering degree, and their language of choice in French, German or Spanish. The immersive experience provides students to spend their fourth year in the country they have chosen, with half of the year taking coursework that will make up the majority of their language degree, and the other half, providing a paid experiential work opportunity in country, that will help subsidize the entire cost of their trip. Through dual degree programs, students gain a competitive edge in the global job market, develop cross-cultural communication skills, and build an international network of professional contacts, all while becoming better global citizens and engineers.
Competency-Based Curriculum for International Programs & Abroad Experiences
The Engineers Around the World (EAW) competency-based enrichment program tailored for engineering students interested in international programs or abroad experiences, focusing on developing essential skills and knowledge through discussions, events, meetings and micro-assignments available through partner offices on UConn’s campus. By participating, students can earn points that they can "cash-in" for CoE merch and can potentially subsidize the cost of their international experience.
Students engage with participating departments in various knowledge-gathering endeavors surrounding international engineering opportunities – whether they are interested in going abroad for an academic semester, for a short-term experience, or enrollment in one of the 5-year, dual degree programs. Whatever the experience, EAW cultivates a community of international-interested engineers on campus and promotes active learning in the space to promote a community of global engineers.
CoE students looking to participate can indicate their interest at orientation, the involvement fair, can meet with a member of the Experiential Education team, or can enroll by emailing engr-international@uconn.edu.
