Q: Did your language skills gained at UConn prepare you for the year abroad?
A: Yes. Unfortunately, Americans have a reputation in Spain of not being able to speak the language very well. However, it quickly became clear in my interactions with other students from the US that UConn spends much more time preparing students in this program for the language side of living in Spain than other universities. Even if you may not feel comfortable by the time you leave for Spain with your level of Spanish communication, there is both a 2 week intensive language course and an entire semester of classes to take in Spanish before you are put into a work environment.
