Modified ESP Schedule

Below is an example of how you can finish the program on time even if you start late with the Spanish coursework. This is just an example; there are other ways of doing this. These other ways mainly depend on what language courses individual students are able to take over the summer or during intersession (between Fall and Spring semester) or during their study/work abroad period.

Spanish Majors must complete 24 credits (the equivalent of 8 courses) of Spanish courses at the 2000, 3000 or 4000 level.

Example: Starting with Spanish in your third year

Fall

First Year

Just engineering, no Spanish

Second Year

Just engineering, no Spanish

After having completed two years, lightning strikes and you realize that you want to go global. Here’s what you can do:

Summer Preceding Third Year

Need a minimum of 3 years of High School Spanish

Third Year

Span 3178 (3) recommended

Fourth Year

Study Abroad:  Span 3293 (12 credits maximum)
Related Area courses (6 credits)

Fifth Year

One composition course (SPAN 3178, 3240W or 3293).

Spring

First Year

Just engineering, no Spanish

Second Year

Just engineering, no Spanish

Span 3171 (3 credits)

Fourth Year

Work Abroad

Engr 3283 – Internship Abroad (6 credits) – used as related area courses

One introductory or literary survey course (SPAN 3230, 3231, 3232, 3233, 3234, 3242).
Span 4200W or Span 3240W
